Dedicated to imparting the path of Basavanna

Basava Yoga Ashrama is dedicated to revealing the Paramarthic path of Basavanna. Under the guidance of Poojya Allamaprabhu Swamiji, Ashrama is researching and imparting the path that helped scores of seekers and yogis to attain divine union in the 12th century.

At the Ashrama, we guide interested adults and children in the holistic enrichment of their lives by adopting the teachings of Basavanna and his contemporary Sharanas. We conduct discourses, camps, & workshops, and offer  books and magazines to educate seekers. We compliment this knowledge by helping them to practice it in their  life. We guide sincere aspirants to supplement the knowledge with spiritual practices such as the pooja, japa, tapa, dhyana, and mouna, as taught by Basavanna.

Basavanna imparted a unique yoga in the 12th century. This yoga enabled sincere aspirants to enjoy the divine union while leading a productive life in the society. This yoga is a synthesis of several disciplines such as the Linga Nirikshana Yoga, Shiva Yoga, Lingangayoga, Layayoga, Nadayoga, Anandayoga and Manamagnayoga.
This yoga begins by teaching aspirants to be cognizant of their inner faculties. It then shows them how to calm the mind and use the mind as a tool to begin a distinct journey toward divinity.

BasavANNA's Yoga

The Paramarthic path of Basavanna is based on the unique yoga envisioned by Basavanna in the 12th century. Thousands of seekers followed this path and transformed into Sharanas, the highest state of Paramartha attainable for humans. This path advocates a holistic approach to Lingangayoga (union with the divine) encompasses bhakti (devotion), jnana (knowledge), and kriye (action) in a well-balanced manner.

Based on the principles of Arivu (true knowledge), Achara (right conduct), and Anubhava (divine experience), this spiritual discipline brought social and religious revolution in the 12th century. Millions followed this path leading and enjoyed the divine bliss. Along with enriching individuals, the eternal message of this path has the power to uplift the society even to this day.

BasavANNA, the guru

While Basavanna was the idea, force, and architect of the revolution in the 12th century, Sharanas were the primary beneficiaries. The literary meaning of the word Sharana is a person who has surrendered himself, generally to God. In the path of Basavanna, a Sharana is one who has transformed his mortal life to that of a life proffered to God; Sharana is one who has evolved from a human into a person with divine experience; and Sharana is one who has offered his body, his mind, his possessions, and his very life to God. The essence, purpose, and goal of the path of Basavanna is to transform humans imprisoned in this mortal life to Sharanas, the liberated soul.

Sharanas

Basavanna and Sharanas penned Vachanas, which are the records of the essence and practices of the path of Basavanna. Vachanas deal with a wide spectrum of subjects. Adapting the messages of Vachanas will  enrich a person holistically.

Vachanas are the chronicles of the divine experiences of Sharanas and they illume the path toward divinity to sincere aspirants. They purify aspirants in word, action, and vision. Composed in simple language, yet carrying profound philosophy and thought provoking ideas, Vachanas are unique. Typically, small verses of 4-8 lines, they prescribe to a format-free writing. Yet, they possess a musical and emotional quality.
